Sports development bill enacted

The National Assembly has unanimously enacted the National Sports Development Bill-2075 BS. Minister for Youth and Sports Jagat Bahadur Sunar had tabled the bill in the parliament proposing its enactment.

Earlier, the parliamentarians had drawn the attention of Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Raghibir Mahaseth on the implementation of Environment Friendly Vehicle and Transport Policy-2071 BS and National Work Plan on Electronic Vehicle. Lawmakers, including Dr Bimala Rai, Ram Narayan Bidari and Kali Bahadur Malla had jointly registered the proposal to that end.

Responding to the queries on the proposal, Minister Mahaseth said Nepal is moving ahead to the operation of electronic vehicles as per the National Action Plan presented by the Prime Minister. “We have prepared the action plan in a way to operate electronic vehicles as the trade deficit is hugely caused by import of petroleum products to the country”, he added.

The new directive in regard to the registration and operation of e-vehicle is in final stage, the minister clarified. “The ministry has outlined an action plan to build ‘charging stations’ for e-vehicles in all seven states headquarters. Also, the contract was signed on Wednesday”, he shared. Likewise, the government has come up with a plan to operate electric rail and also decided to operate 300 electric buses in and out of the valley.

For this the government has already released Rs 3 billion to Saajha Yatayat, he went on saying. In order to ensure well management of electronic vehicles in the Kathmandu valley, a Transport Authority has been already constituted and the bill to that effect would be presented in the next meeting of the National Assembly, Minister Mahaseth added. The Detailed Project Report for the East-West Train line (945-km) has already been prepared, he informed, adding the government has moved ahead with the plan to operate electric rail service on Kathmandu-Rasuwa and Kathmandu-Birgunj routes.
