Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that a new law would be introduced through an Ordinance in order to punish those involved in the inhumane and heinous crime of acid attack. He was speaking at a special event held at his official residence in Baluwatar today, in presence of acid attack survivors and the law minister.

The perpetrators will have their property withheld and used to compensate the survivors, along with their medical cost, the Prime Minister said while announcing that treatment would be made available at Bir and TU Teaching hospitals. Free education, training, employment opportunities and livelihood of the survivors shall be ensured.

A total of 12 acid attack survivors from across the country attended the programme, where the Prime Minister assured them of free treatment and cost for regular medication. Those interested will be provided concessional loan for entrepreneurship development.

He also appealed to the concerned authorities to make arrangement to observe September 10 every year as the day of awareness against acid attack. “The government will work to ensure that incident of acid attack does not take place in the future, and that nobody has to endure such pain,” the Prime Minister noted.
